IntraMessenger 1.23D

IntraMessenger Editor's Review

IntraMessenger is an instant messaging software. However, after I've tested the program I can say that its usability is questionable. This is due to the fact that the program stops responding sometimes and the user interface acts weird. For example the first letter of every message I send is appended to the previous message.

First thing you need to do when installing the software is to choose the preferred language. Next, you must specify the address of a web server which runs a special script provided by the publisher. This PHP script is distributed along with the main application.

As you might have already figured out, IntraMessenger uses the web server for relaying messages from one computer (user) to another. The advantage of this method is that you can control what's being transmitted. You can censure certain words, ban users depending on their nickname, and view statistics. The administrative tasks are done by accessing the admin directory of your web server. The documentation states that this directory should be protected with a password and that you should use a '.htaccess' file.

Pluses:

Drawbacks / flaws: The English translation of this software is pretty poor. Sometimes I didn't have a clue what the program wanted to say, because I don't know French. Also, the publisher's special web server seems a bit unresponsive at times. I used this server for testing, but relaying the messages took forever.

In conclusion: IntraMessenger is just another instant messenger. It doesn't provide great features and it lacks stability.
